the final piece

in total i used 780 tabs.

The Construction

each board had 14 long strips and 286 1.5in dividers. construction took 18 hours to build the boards.

2,000+ tabs

Statement

for this project, i decided to collect soda can tabs to emphasize the significance and importance of recycling. just recently i have become interested in recycling, not only because it is good for the economy, but it is a really really easy way to make a difference. thoughout the months of collecting, i was able to recycle a little over 2,000 tabs. i transformed them into a piece, by building 1.5in x 1.5in square cubbies for each of the tabs to sit in. i made three equal in sized boards that held 260 tabs each and then hung them on a wall in my livingroom. Unfortunately due to time, i waws not able to make cubbies for all 2,000+ tabs.

Collection

Throughout the three months of collecting, i collected at least one tab a day. i found tabs anywhere from recycling cans to church/family functions to just lying on the ground. i also had several people give me tabs that they have collected or were collecting for me.
