Acrylic paint, spray paint, can tabs on pallette.
41" x 34" x 5"
2010
This piece started out with a completely gessoed pallette. Then I placed can tabs on the pallette in an interesting design and spray painted it. After removing all of the tabs, I used paint to make shapes from the paint that was sprayed. I decided to reincorporate the tabs into the piece by stringing them on wire and connecting them inbetween the pallette panels.
Acrylic, spray paint, nails on pallette.
30" x 46" x 4"
2010
I started by gessoing most of the pallette then on top of that I painted over the gesso in a beige color. I created a form through automatic drawing and repeated the same image in nails off to the right side. After creating the image I used a piece of cardboard used for packing as a stencil and spray painted certain areas.
Acrylic, paper collage on canvas
24" x 36"
2010
I started out with a standard canvas. Then I layered newspaper and magazine in interesting textures and began creating 3-D forms. From then I just experimented with color, shape and line.
Acrylic, watercolor, yarn, can tabs on panel
33.3" x 30"
2010
I started out covering the panel with pages from an encyclopedia that dealt with animals. Then I covered on top of that with a 70s wallpaper design in sharpie. I painted to entire panel thick enough to cover the pages but not the design. Then I created these creatures out of can tabs strung together with wire and finished with yarn. The material that I had not used before was the tabs as line.
Acrylic and thread
24" x 36"
2010
I started this one with a standard canvas and began making layers of washes. Then before I painted my machine, I cut up pieces of other machines and collaged then together and came up with this image. Then I painted the image fully. I wasn't satisfied with how it looked so I scratched the paint off and painted the area white and filled in the rest of the machine with a thread outline.
Acrylic and fabric on panel
24" X 35.5"
2010
Initially this piece stared out with a panel covered in text. Then I started to paint leaves, but I really didn't like painting so realistically. I came up with these shapes that are inspired by the plants that I saw in the greenhousee. Then for variety and texture, I added the fabric.
